How to Qualify and Apply for the Susan Buffett Scholarship, Deadline Included

For over 50 years, the Susan T. Buffett Foundation has been giving scholarships to college students in Nebraska.

You can get a scholarship if you’re a first-time freshman from Nebraska, went to a Nebraska high school (or got a GED), and plan to attend a Nebraska public college.

Not everyone who applies can get a scholarship because there are only a few available

Here’s what you need to qualify:

  • You have to live in Nebraska and meet the college’s residency rules.
  • Even if you’re DACA, undocumented, or DACA-eligible, you can still apply.
  • You must graduate from a Nebraska high school or earn a Nebraska GED.
  • Your high school GPA needs to be at least 2.0.
  • You should be starting college as a first-time freshman.
  • It’s okay if you earned some college credits in high school.
  • You plan to go to a Nebraska public college.
  • You need financial help to go to college. You don’t have to be eligible for a Pell Grant.
  • Your Student Aid Index (SAI) has to be below 10,000.

Your application will be reviewed based on different things like how much financial help you need.

How well you did in school, your answers to some questions, and a recommendation.

What is the Susan Buffett Scholarship Deadline 

The deadline for the 2024 application is April 17, 2024, before 5:00 pm CT/4:00 pm MT.

If you applied by February 1st, you’ll need to submit some extra documents by then.

You need to fill out some forms online, get a recommendation, show some financial documents, send your high school transcript, answer some questions, and give your consent.

The February 1st deadline has already passed, so new applications are not accepted.

How to Apply

To apply, you also need to fill out the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

You must upload some FAFSA documents before April 17, 2024.

If you can’t do the FAFSA because of your citizenship, you can use the Federal Student Aid Estimator.
